Many tags and are generated during import based on other meta information. If a document for instance comes from an TAO extension (e. g. Rest API or Wiki articles) the name and description of the extension is used. Articles that originally have been part of the TAO Forge are enriched by meta data from the forge export. This chapter discusses how to edit the tags in the markdown meta data.

Basic rules

To avoid inconsistencies both, Tags and Tag Groups should follow some rules:

  • use nouns rather than verbs or other forms
  • start with an upper case letter and use regular spelling (no camel case etc.)
  • use singular
  • check the navigation for your topic at the TAO Hub - there might be already a tag that is similar enough to what you intend to use.

Vanilla syntax

Tags are simply arrays in YAML syntax

tags: ["Some Tag", "Another Tag", ...]
   # alternatively
   tags:
       - "Some Tag"
       - "Another Tag"
       - ....

Tags in Groups

There are several ways to create Tag Groups, either with the syntax Group:Tag or [Group: [Tag, ...]].

tags: ["Group:Some Tag", "Group:Another Tag", "Another Group:Yet another tag"]
   # alternatively
   tags:
       Group:
           - "Some Tag"
           - "Another Tag"
       Another Group:
           - "Yet another tag"
           - ....

And what does this look like?
